With club football coming
to an end, attention turns to the Euros 2020 scheduled for last year.
Naturally, club football was of much significance in the squad's determination. The competition will be hosted in 12 cities and the finals held at Wembley on July 11th. This will ensure that the Euros are felt across Europe and with the Covid-19 pandemic, fans will be able to enjoy the football atmopshere in their home cities. Many of the players have been dropped due to the lack of game time. Nevertheless,
some immense improvement has been witnessed in some squads, new talents have emerged,
and some of the legends of the squads have been recalled.
Benzema has been
recalled in the France squad after 6 years of absence that has seen him miss
the Euros 2016 hosted in his home country. As a result, he missed lifting the
world cup, but his contribution to the Real Madrid team since Cristiano left
has brought light into his national team career.
Stars
left out of the competition.
Notable stars to be
left out of the competition include a shocking miss for Sergio Ramos in the
Spanish squad. He holds the armband to the national team and his club but has
still been left out. Ramos has had a rather injury flooded season that made him
miss Real Madrid games. In addition, the Aymeric Laporte switch from France to
Spain has made it even harder for the Spanish talisman.
The Golden boy winner,
Erling Haaland, will also miss out on the competition as Serbia knocked out
Norway to advance. Will this be a setback in his race to competing with Mbappe
in the so-called new generational talent?
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will
have to wait for the world cup if only Sweden qualifies to make his return to
the cup tournament after making a return to the Swedish team. But, unfortunately,
the Swedish star suffered a knee injury that robbed him of a place in the
Euros, and he will be left to only watch from his sofa.
The wall of Liverpool
and the captain of the Dutch national team will be on the sideline after
suffering an injury during the Merseyside derby. Van Djik has been on the
sideline since then, and this has been a shock to the Liverpool team, having
seen them struggle to make the top 4. The Netherlands will have to feel the
shock of the loss, and hence the 29-year old will be on the sidelines in the
tournament.
The
Manager's tough Job
It will be a tough job,
especially in England, where this a spree of talent and an overload of
positions. The right-back position, in particular, has been in the spotlight.
Recce James is now a Champions League winner with Chelsea and is good in the
attacking and defensive duties. Recce James plays more of an attacking-minded
defender at Chelsea as he explores more of the opponent's right half, leaving
Azpilicueta to handle the defensive duties. When called back, he can flank to
the right-back position and form a four-defense. Leaving him out of the squad
would be a blow to the English team, which requires a versatile right-back who
is good upfront in also bringing in crosses. Trent is good on the attack but
relatively poor in the defensive duties. He has also had a bad season that saw
Liverpool end the campaign trophyless. Walker and Trippier offer an experience
to the squad, registering more caps for the national team than the other
right-backs.
Antony Martial and
Eduardo Camavinga have been left out of the French squad, highly competitive
despite their talents. Martial has had an unpleasant season while Camavinga has
been outstanding for Rennes, has been linked with Europe's elite clubs, and got
his first ever call up to the French National team.
These are a few of the
top tough tasks that the managers are faced with in their quest to selecting
the best squads to win the European title. With South gate set to announce his
26 man squad, all attention to the right-back and the attacking players to cut.
